Thank You!!!

Dear Friends and Family,

We just wanted to share our deepest gratitude for those of you who made it possible for our family to accompany our son to Oahu for his hospitalization at Kapiolani. Without the generous donation of Hawaiian Airlines Miles from our family and friends, the miles we had would not have been enough on our own to send our family.

We have seen that all of us being here together has been a wonderful encouragement to our son who was hospitalized this week. He has been hospitalized several times in his life, and each time he has struggled with the transition. Being able to come early together, and work to get him settled in was a much better transition for him. Each day he asked for his Daddy and different siblings at different times. As a Mom it felt great to be able to answer him by saying, “I know you want to see them, and they want to see you! They will be here in a little while to visit you!!!” I was able to spend each day and night with DeSean and the whole family made a couple of visiting times each day, as well as my husband making a special effort to come and read stories and help get him settled for the night.

Thank you Deeanna for the great idea of posting our need for miles on the HOPE INC, Inc website. And although I felt a little awkward and humbled with the request for help, I am completely blessed by the care and concern, and continued prayer we have received from people. Being able to travel together as a family has been a tremendous blessing for us.

Since we have been here on Oahu, we have also been completely blessed by an amazing, generous family who has allowed us to stay in their vacation rental. A huge thank you goes out to the Rushes for allowing all nine of us to share space with you this whole week! Another big thank you goes to my Aunt and Uncle who took five of our children on an outing to the zoo, dinner and a trip to their home…especially since this outing was only supposed to last a couple of hours but stretched later into the evening. Thank you so much!

God has truly taken care of our needs all the way around. We have been inundated with learning new information about the specifics of this diet, using a new computer program for calculating DeSean’s meals, tracking information and working closely with a dietician to address the special concerns of this diet and the treatment of epilepsy. DeSean’s seizure activity has already GREATLY reduced in these few days. He has gone from having 100+ seizures per day to having only a few! Hallelujah! We believe that everyone who has invested in our family with prayer, concern, miles, a place to stay, love and support…you have all sown into the healing of our son. We know that God is our ultimate healer, and He is using this diet as a tool to provide something our son needed. Thank you for sharing in this journey with us and being a part of what God is doing in our family.

Words cannot express the gratefulness we feel. On behalf of my whole family, I thank you for your love, support, and generosity.

We pray that God will richly bless you and your families!
Love, Jessica (and the whole Wertz Ohana)
