My husband loves people. He enjoys sitting and talking story. If you know Ben, you know his love for detail and how much he enjoys making the time to have conversation. Ben is the kind of guy who would have had a big porch and a swing and he would have sat out there every night talking with neighbors, friends and family. Not only does Ben like to talk story, he likes to listen to other people’s stories. Especially if they have something to share that stirs him. Ben is moved by the needs of people, and their need for God. He wants others to know God’s love and mercy.
When Ben had the opportunity to travel to Haiti this past year, he was moved with a love for the people of Haiti. To be able to build a home, and minister to people through prayer, and relationship blessed him, and gave him a greater hunger to reach out to needy people. Sometimes it is hard to believe that months have passed since his return from Haiti. There are still so many stories to tell, many pictures to see…and many prayers to be prayed over the people of Haiti.
One of the greatest blessings Ben recalls from their adventure in Haiti was time spent with people. Building the duplex for two families was great and spending time with children who gathered around was good, too. But going out into the tent cities, visiting the prison and spending time with Haitian people was the highlight of the trip for him. The day the team was able to go to the “Fifth Section” where the most recent Cholera outbreak was, is etched in my husbands mind as the most memorable day in Haiti. For it was this day they prayed for the people of this tent city. Ben recalls the openness of the people and their willingness to receive prayer. In one family they prayed for the healing of a young girl in a wheelchair. She had been injured in the earth quake when a door frame fell on her, and she has been unable to walk since that time. This young lady had received prayer from other team members earlier that week. This particular day, Ben was honored to pray with her Mom through an interpreter, as the mother prayed to receive Christ as her Savior. The team had no idea that this mom and daughter would be one of the family’s moving into the duplex they completed! God orchestrated all the details.
Ben is still impacted by the experiences he had in Haiti. Someday he hopes to return with all of us!
