Yesterday, my husband took our youngest son to O’ahu for a medical appointment with another specialist.
They were gone for nearly twelve hours. And although I know it was a long day for the, my husband said it was a good day.
We had a good day here at home as well. I actually forgot what it was like not to have a toddler or a pre-schooler around because I have had a little one with us for the past 15 years. Please don’t misunderstand, I love having little ones around, and I hope that God has more in store for us…I just forgot what it was like.
I decided to make the most of it! I woke the other five children early and asked them to make themselves ready and complete their morning chores so that I could take them out to breakfast. They chose their favorite spot!
We sat in a restaurant, fairly quietly, enjoying each others company and savoring every bite for over an hour! This is unheard of in our family. Many other families have quiet well-behaved toddlers. Our little man is not so quiet and although he is sometimes well-behaved, restaurants are a challenge.
After breakfast was the beach. We swam for a couple of hours. I have missed seeing the underwater world! It was wonderful! We showered up and went to the library and everyone sat and read through books for hours.
After the grocery store and lunch, the children made time to complete their math assignments and some writing.
I had this thought that this is what life may look like in another five years. As I mentioned earlier, I hope God has more children in store for us. And I enjoyed the calm, the quiet and the activities I was able to enjoy with my older children yesterday.
