Today was the first official day of our fast. I feel that day one went well.
There were several times throughout a jam-packed day that I longed for a quiet space to spend more time in prayer. With church and worship practice in the morning and activities in the afternoon, I did not carve out as much time as I had hoped for to pray and journal.
Throughout the day my family and I had several conversations about the parameters of the fast and what we were committing to as a family. A couple of our children were disappointed with some of the things they were going to have to give up for the next 21 days. They needed a little extra encouragement and teaching around why we fast, why it’s a spiritual discipline that is an important part of the Christian life, as well as the health benefits.
Along with our Daniel Fast of giving up meats, sweets, dairy products, and all pleasurable foods – as a family we have given up all gluten, and media (except for a daily blog update).
We have Bible study each day in the afternoon as a part of our homeschooling day. We are going to add a time of journaling to our study time in the afternoon. We also added an evening devotional time to read through the book of Daniel and discuss it as a family.
I am looking forward to all of it!
