What a wonderful month we have had celebrating life! Three of our children have birthdays in the month of September, and we have been enjoying the festivities!
We have a family tradition of letting the Birthday Girl or Boy choose a menu, and the type of cake they would like as well as activities for the day. Here are some details of what we did….
My eldest and youngest sons share a birthday on the 1st of September. Kalun turned 14 and DeSean turned 3. Oh how time rushes past us! Their birthday fell on a Wednesday this year, so that evening we took cupcakes to church to share with the youth group. All of my homeschoolers were happy to have a holiday from school. On Thursday, Ben had the day off so we headed for Kona! We went to Hapuna beach for a few hours and played in the water, enjoyed the smooth white sand, built sand castles, body boarded and had a great time. After leaving the beach we headed for a couple of shopping spots in Kona – Costco and Target 🙂 Kalun loves to shop, too and enjoyed the whole day! On Friday, Kalun invited a friend to sleep over and we rented a couple of video games for them to play.
DeSean also had fun! He loved being outside and at the ocean. He received a new tricycle, and a toddler sized papa san chair, along with several other little things his siblings chose for him. Kalun shared the menu choices with his younger brother by choosing food that DeSean also liked. I am not so sure that DeSean made the connection that this was his birthday. We sang and celebrated, took pictures and opened gifts. DeSean was his happy self!
Caitlyn also had a birthday this month. She made double digits! 10 years old. She originally had wanted to go to Kona and at the last-minute changed her mind…really she changed her mind on everything. She originally chose a Bumble Bee cake for me to make along with a trip to Kona. The day before her birthday she expressed how much she really wanted to have friends over for a party. I listened to her request and realized this was really important to her, so we scrambled and scheduled an impromptu party with friends from our church and halau, and we had a great time! We made homemade pizzas, and smoothies, and enjoyed a cute Littlest Petshop Cake. She was beaming with delight!
