Prayers Answered

I love answered prayer! Who doesn’t, right?

As my husband and I prepared for our move to Hawai’i we prayed a lot. We prayed over areas of our lives, future friends, future church, future opportunities for ministry, our home, a job for Ben, the hope/ability for me to stay home, opportunity to speak and teach and share from our hearts, future friends for our children, and the list goes on.

Each of these areas have been so carefully accounted for by God…down to the last detail. As we look at how certain things are unfolding here, we see His fingerprints on everything. His timing is perfect. His grace is enough.

God is so faithful to answer our prayers. One prayer all along was that Ben’s ministerial license would transfer and he would be able to be used in pastoral leadership here in Hawai’i. After finding a church that could minister to our whole family, Ben and I continued to pray about how God may be able to use us in service to the church and in service to Him there. Straight away we met wonderful people who received us and blessed us. We have been able to share life with people, beach excursions, shared meals, time together, coffee talks, bible studies, etc. Ben was asked to share at the men’s prayer breakfast and I was asked to share at the women’s prayer breakfast. As we continued to pray about being involved it became clear that we are always involved wherever our children are involved.

The former youth leaders actually had their final weekend at church the weekend we began attending which was several months ago now. Our pastor was overseeing the youth and really was asking that people come alongside of him in the process. It became very clear that we were to step in as youth leaders, either in the interim or until God makes something else clear to all involved. Ben will also be starting to teach a series on Wednesday nights. It is such a tremendous blessing to him to be used in the ministry calling and gifting that God chose for him. He is not only being used, but he is competent in the calling God has on his life. He is a good teacher, and a good leader and people respond so well to him. As a wife, it is such a tremendous blessing to see my man step into his dream, a desire of his heart, and to see people support him. This has been on hold for some time and now the doors have re-opened! I love seeing him feel so fulfilled.

I have been teaching the youth on Wednesday nights and Ben has been teaching on Friday nights. What a blessing! God has been so faithful to reveal His desire for the youth, His heart for them as young people. And I am so excited to be a part of what God has in store. I am not one who believes that the teenage years are a time for rebellion or vacation from responsibility. I believe wholeheartedly that youth have the same calling as adults, just as children, they do not serve a lessor God and therefore, they are able to follow His Word and receive all the blessings He has for him. I love having the opportunity to disciple them and raise the standard according to what God has in store for all of us.

Ben and I both have a heart for missions. We have both had the opportunity to do short-term missions and have continued to have the desire to pursue any opportunities in which the Lord would have us participate. We have not been able to go to the nations for some time. In the past we have each had separate opportunities, as well as one together. However, that time is again opening up for us.  Ben was recently asked to join a team going to Haiti. Since the time of the devastating earthquake, we have prayed and asked God if there was any way we could be used to help rebuild that nation, adopt children, or whatever other needs we be able to assist in meeting.  At this time, it seems that Ben would be one of four builders going over to work early next year. There is a lot of support raising and other things that have to happen between now and then…and we are again so excited for what God has in store! We will continue to seek wisdom and guidance and unless the Lord changes something this is the plan for now.

Ben has been hired for a fun and exciting job as a tour guide for a zipline company. He is enjoying being outdoors and meeting new people everyday. He gets quite a workout everyday and is getting into incredible shape! It is hard work and he is very sore every evening. He had his first review and his bosses were very pleased with him and his work and the way he works with people! I had prayed that this journey to Hawai’i would renew his confidence as a man, and encourage him in ways that he has not known in sometime. Again, answered prayer….

Truly it seems as though every detail we have prayed into, many simply the desires of our hearts, are being answered by God. We sense His hand, blessing and direction in all things.

Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your hearts desires. Psalm 37:3-4
